Look — our house is topless! Well, not anymore: we finally got our new roof last week. It was a two-day process (July 24-25) that was a little stressful, especially because a big rainstorm came through at the end of day one. Thank goodness for tarps! The photo above is “during” — it was interesting (but a little scary) to see what the wood looked like under the shingles. Not bad for 60+-year-old wood.
Here’s the old roof (photo from 2006, right before we bought the house):
And here’s the new roof:
I’m not sure why most of the roof photos I took were of the back of the house. Here’s one that (kind of) shows the front:
They used our back steps as a dumpster for all of day one and most of the yard was a mess, so I was nervous about how they would leave things. But they did a great job of cleaning up — we haven’t even found a single nail! Obviously, this is a “during” photo:
There are some finishing things that still need to be done (painting of vent pipes and other little things) but that will come during “Stage 2” when they replace some siding, gutters and other things. That work is supposed to start in a couple of weeks — at least there should be less banging!
Your new roof looks very nice! I’m glad to hear there was no leakage. 🙂
You probably see the roof more than I do since you drive by it every day and I just sit inside of it!
