A Work in Progress
I’m learning how to create/maintain/alter this site as we go, so if you see anything that doesn’t work, want to make a suggestion or have any questions, let us know!
Helpful Hints
If you’re new to WordPress or blogs (like us!), here are a few things you may not know:
♦ To go to the home page from any page, just click on our image in the upper left corner.
♦ You can (almost) always click on a photo or image to see it larger (at its original size).
♦ You can sign up to receive an email whenever a new post is added — just look for “Want Updates By Email?” at the bottom of the page. Once you submit your email address you’ll receive a confirmation email. Just follow the instructions in that (you’ll just have to click a link) and you’ll be signed up!
♦ More to come…
Style “Liberties”
This is a note to all the “word nerds” and “style slaves” out there (I know most “normal” people won’t get it). In my professional life, I adhere to all the grammar and AP Stylebook rules. I can’t let go of the grammar part — I still read over, edit and spell check (when possible) every email and text I send. It’s like a sickness, but one I’m glad to have. Still, I’m tired of a lot of the rules, especially some of the style ones. I am a lover of the em dash (—) and I use it (and misuse it) excessively, but I hate that you’re not supposed to use a space before or after it. I know it’s all about conserving space, but I like a little white space! So I know rules are rules, and if someone is paying me to write I’ll follow each and every one of them. But here — I’ll do what I want!
Finally! A place I can come relish in the excessive use of the em dash — with spaces, before and after — and not feel alone.
This is spectacularly fun! Thanks for including me. I’ll stay tuned for updates.
