More than you really want to know…

… About the Who, What & Why of LorenAndRob.com

Who
If you’re here, it’s probably because you know the “Who.” If you don’t, you’ll be shocked to learn that LorenAndRob.com is by, and about, two people named Loren and Rob. I (Loren) do most of the writing, so if you see “I” that means me. That’s all you get for now.

What
This is a written and visual account of what’s up with us — even though we’re the first to admit that our life is not very exciting. We always say we’ll let people know when something is going on with us. When we don’t check in it’s not that we’re being non-communicative, it just means nothing is going on! But even when our life and events are less than thrilling, I can still find plenty to write about (as you know or will soon find out). That’s why the site’s “subtitle” is “More Than You Really Want to Know…”. You can’t say you weren’t warned!

Why
So why spend the time and effort to do a website about “not very exciting” “nothing”? For a few reasons, including:

♦ We bought a few domains many years ago and kept renewing them, yet never did anything with them. Since I’ve had a little free time on my hands lately I wanted to get one going for Rob’s art (and possibly for selling cards in the near future) and I figured we may as well get a personal site going, too. First I had to figure a lot of things out since the only web “instruction” I’ve ever had was one class at UofL in the mid-1990s! I’m teaching myself as I go along and I’ve made it this far thanks to many web searches, a ton of trial-and-error experiences and probably a whole lot of luck. (*Note: Our other site, RedAndBlond.com, is even more of a work in progress than this site. It hasn’t been officially “launched” yet but you’re welcome to check out what’s there so far.)

♦ We don’t “do” Facebook. Let’s not get into why — it’s just a choice we’ve made. So people can’t “like” us on Facebook, but if they really “like” us (sorry — couldn’t resist) they can come here to find out what’s going on.

♦ As I’ve already mentioned, my web knowledge was minimal and extremely outdated. By doing these sites I’m learning skills that are becoming mandatory for most jobs in communications (and most other fields as well). About a month after first checking out WordPress for myself I got a freelance job auditing a website that uses it — so instead of being lost I actually knew what I was doing. Talk about great timing! Obviously the more I learn the better off I’ll be — and the better our sites will be.
